Mid-Atlantic Fall Section Meeting at Montgomery County Airpark (Gaithersburg Airport –
KGAI), 7940 Airpark Road, Gaithersburg, Maryland, 20879.
The KGAI airport is located seventeen miles from the heart of the Nation’s capital. Runway
32/14 asphalt. 4201’x75’. Montgomery County Airpark (KGAI) is located within the
boundaries of the Washington, DC Metropolitan Special Flight Rules Area (SFRA). SFRA
procedures are in effect at all times (NEVER SQUAWK 1200 AT ANY TIME). Prior to flying to

The old schedule: (Tour of Glenn L. Martin Wind Tunnel. This is near the College Park Airport, MD. Why are airplanes designed as they are? This special tour is in a state of the art low speed wind tunnel and has been actively involved in aerodynamic research and development of airplanes and wing designs. A fascinating tour explaining how fuselage, helicopters, conventional airplanes, UALs, wings are designed. Cutting edge design of airplanes to make them lighter, more buoyant, more efficient. The Wright Brothers had very primitive wind designs. This is a very interesting tour.)
1:30 – 3:00 PM. Tour of National Transportation Safety Board at 490 L'Enfant Plaza, SW, Washington, DC 20594. A fascinating tour explaining how they investigate aviation accidents. Many accidents have been investigated, including US Airways Flight 1549, “the Miracle on the Hudson”. Explanation of some of the historic aviation accidents. Only for those who pre-register.

Business meeting will be held at (first floor) Main Conference Room – Washington International Flight Academy (WIFA), Montgomery County Airpark (Gaithersburg, KGAI) 7940 Airpark Rd, Hangar C, Gaithersburg, MD 20879. There is parking available. You do not need a PIN to fly into KGAI.
This space is handicapped accessible.

Speakers: We are DELIGHTED and EXCITED to feature TWO SUPER-STARS !! We are very fortunate to have stellar speakers. Both are amazing participants of the Women Pilots Ninety Nines, Washington DC Chapter.

Rebekah Seifer, USCG, will speak about her journey as a Coast Guard pilot. Her distinguished military path started as pilot and an Aeronautical Engineer. She has a distinguished military career piloting: HC-144A (CASA), GV, & G550 (both Gulfstream aircraft). She is currently the MH-60T (Jayhawk helicopter) Systems Manager at CG Headquarters. The CG has many good scholarship programs to support careers. And,

Lt Col Lauren W. Palagi, USAF, will speak about her journey as an Air Force pilot. Her illustrious military career includes piloting a C-17 Globemaster III. C-17 Globemaster III is the most flexible cargo aircraft to enter the airlift force. The C-17 is capable of rapid strategic delivery of troops and all types of cargo to main operating bases or directly to forward bases in the deployment area. The aircraft can perform tactical airlift and airdrop missions.
It has a max payload cap of 170,900 lbs.

Noon to 1:00 PM by Café Sophie
Lunch will be provided by Café Sophie, which is a delightful European style café with a Scandinavian influence at Montgomery County Airport (KGAI). Tom, a Co-Founder, is a foodie from Bergen, Norway.
A few family members serve as hostesses. Also at main building of KGAI, (Second floor) 7940 Airpark Rd, Gaithersburg, MD.

Saturday Oct 5, 2024 Afternoon:
We are leaving the Saturday afternoon for optional sight-seeing in the Washington, D.C. area. There are many very interesting museums and aviation exhibits that may be of interest. Or others may wish to drive/fly out at their own schedule.
